Vortex pre-filter's act as a settlement chamber, ideally used before any japanese koi filter and especially when installing a bead filter the vortex will take out most of the large finds this keeping your main filter very clean and cuts the maintenance to a minimum, they can be very flushed easily (daily or weekly) depending on he stocking of your pond,
we use them on most of our systems and sieve's on the rest,they are so easy to clean ,give them a quick flush every day and no soils will build up ,if you do let them build up you will need to hose it down now and again
algie will grow in the vortex and the soils will stick to the sides more easily keeping a lid on the vorex will help this problem
